Seasons

The Earth spins on an axis, one spin equals one day. The Earth orbits the Sun. One full time around the Sun equals one year. This is the same for all planets. An Earth day is 24 hours and an Earth year is 365 1/4 days. When one part of the Earth is facing the sun, it is day time and sunny. But when apart is not, it is ight time and dark. However the Earth's axis is tilted. This means that certain parts of the Earth are closer to the Sun at different times of the year. When the Northen Hemisphere is pointing towards the sun, it is summer in the UK. When it is pointing away, it is winter.
