Mirrors have a smooth and shiny surface so they reflect light on and off at the same angle. This leaves a clear reflection. The law of reflection states that the angle of incedence equals the angle of reflection. The angles of incedence and reflection are always measured between the light ray and the normal (a line at 90o to the surface).
Light can travel through anything transparent, but cannot travel through something which is opaque. Whenever light travels through a transparent objects, it refracts. Refraction simply means that the light ray has bent. When light travels from a less dense object to more dense object, it bends towards the normal. If it goes from more dense to less dense, it bends away from the normal.
