A plants contains four reproductive organs. The stamens are the male part of the plant and consist of the anther and filament. The anther produces pollen grains and the filament supports it. Carpels are the female parts of the plant. The carpel contains a stigma, a style and an ovary containing ovules. It is inside the ovules where the femal sex cell is made. A plant also has petals, which attracts insects for pollination and sepals, which protect the flower whilst it is a bud.

Pollination is the process of getting pollen to the stigma. There are two types of pollination. Self pollination is where pollen is transfered to the stigma of the same plant. Cross pollination is where the stigma of one plant is fertilised by the pollen of a different plant. Pollination can happen though insects like bees who carry the pollen from plant to plant, or it can happen through the pollen being blown from plant to plants
